Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (MNLU Mumbai) is one of the premier national law universities established in the State of Maharashtra to promote world class legal education and research. Hon'ble Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India is the Chancellor of the University.
Hon’ble the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court is the Pro-Chancellor of the University.
The envisaged object of the University is to advance and disseminate learning, knowledge of law and legal processes; to develop in the students a sense of responsibility to serve the society and to impart skills on advocacy and justice, legal services, legislation and law reforms, thereby making law and legal processes efficient instrument of social development. Towards attaining these objectives, MNLU Mumbai offers Five year integrated B.A., LL.B. (Hons.), One year LL.M. (Regular), One Year LL.M. (Investment and Securities Law) jointly with NISM, One Year LL.M. (Professional), M.A. (Executive) in Mediation and Conflict Resolution, Ph.D. programme among other diplomas and short term courses. The University also runs various certificate courses such as Mediation, Data Protection Law, Cyber Law, IPR, Arbitration and foreign languages such as German and Spanish on regular basis.
MNLU Mumbai is a vibrant institute that explores the curious legal dimensions of public policy, ethics, business, and also a plethora of issues in order to produce quality legal scholarship, capable of facing the real world challenges. From its very inception, MNLU Mumbai has aimed to attain excellence in all aspects of legal training and education. It encourages students to engage in a host of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for their mental, physical and professional growth. No wonder, the students are leaving their indelible imprint by winning numerous mooting, debating and sports competitions of national and international repute thereby putting the University firmly on the national circuit.
The University has entered into a number of MoUs with national and international institutes. Internationally, the University has ties with L’Universite’ Paris Nanterre, Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL), Germany, American University, Washington DC and others. Among, its collaborations with government agencies, the prominent ones are National Institute of Securities Management (NISM - a unit of SEBI), International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM - a unit of Election Commission of India), Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM - a unit of Govt. of India), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and many more, thereby facilitating regular programmes with these prestigious institutions.
The University boasts its research output via a dedicated Department of Research and 15 research centres including Centre for Research in Criminal Justice (CRCJ), Centre for Arbitration and Research (CAR), Centre for Information Communication Technology and Law (CICTL), Centre for Advanced Training in Taxation Laws (CATTL), Centre for Mediation and Research (CMR), Centre for Training & Research in Commercial Regulations (CTRCR), Centre for Research in Intellectual Property (CRIP), Centre for Women, Law and Gender Justice (CWLGC), Centre for Insolvency and Financial Laws (CIFL), Centre for Clinical Legal Education (CCLE), Centre for Advanced Legal Studies, Training & Research (CALSTR), Centre for Maritime Law and Research (CML&R), Centre for Research in Air & Space Law (CRASL). The University has been given two sponsored research Chairs; one is Justice M. L. Pendse Chair in Environmental Laws and other is Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) IPR Chair.
MNLU Mumbai being located in the coveted Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, has wide exposure to the sprawling urban facilities of Mumbai city. The campus location is in proximity to IIT Bombay and is 13 kms from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The hostel is located just across the campus. The centrally air conditioned floors of the Academic block have all essential amenities like smart classrooms, library, reading room, moot court hall, mediation centre, legal service clinic, internship cell, board room and conference hall etc., ideal for optimizing the students’ learning, research, training and extension activities. The University facilitates access to a well-equipped library with large number of books, law journals, magazines and subscription to multiple online databases such as JStor, Hein Online, SCC Online, Manupatra, Oxford Publications, Lexis Nexis, EBC Reader, Proview and Westlaw.
The Government of Maharashtra is taking necessary steps are being taken to launch the building project at the earliest.
